Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Consumer & Cyclical and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Transportation & Logistics, Telecoms and Retail sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.01%, while the MDAX index lost 0.17%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN), which rose 1.80% or 3.50 points to trade at 198.15 at the close. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) added 1.70% or 0.370 points to end at 22.160 and Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) was up 1.49% or 2.55 points to 174.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 4.86% or 0.615 points to trade at 12.045 in late trade. Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) declined 2.74% or 0.750 points to end at 26.630 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) shed 1.20% or 0.94 points to 77.70.
The top performers on the MDAX were Krones AG O.N. (DE:KRNG) which rose 2.48% to 111.700, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was up 2.19% to settle at 135.25 and Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which gained 1.44% to close at 24.000.
The worst performers were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was down 6.94% to 0.23 in late trade, Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which lost 1.84% to settle at 35.280 and Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO Pref (DE:FPEG_p) which was down 1.74% to 47.300 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which rose 4.48% to 159.850, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was up 1.81% to settle at 84.250 and Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which gained 1.41% to close at 251.50.
The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 3.47% to 8.678 in late trade, Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which lost 3.15% to settle at 16.320 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 2.63% to 57.350 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 376 to 320 and 99 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.83% to 16.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.72% or 9.40 to $1321.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.34% or 1.49 to hit $65.03 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.55% or 1.72 to trade at $69.14 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.17% to 1.2262, while EUR/GBP fell 0.35% to 0.8715.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 89.80.
