Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Staples and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG), which rose 19.39% or 1.97 points to trade at 12.13 at the close. Enerflex Ltd . (TO:EFX) added 9.37% or 1.42 points to end at 16.57 and Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO:RBA) was up 8.70% or 3.950 points to 49.340 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO:NVA), which lost 10.69% or 0.920 points to trade at 7.690 in late trade. Uni-Select Inc. (TO:UNS) declined 6.65% or 1.45 points to end at 20.35 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TO:BHC) shed 5.35% or 1.62 points to 28.68.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 624 to 406 and 143 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.08% to 12.34.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 0.80 to $1219.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.38% or 0.92 to hit $67.73 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.17% or 0.84 to trade at $72.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.55% to 0.7621, while CAD/EUR rose 0.45% to 0.6678.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.73% at 96.16.
