Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 8.81% or 0.43 points to trade at 5.31 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) added 8.42% or 0.17 points to end at 2.19 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) was up 8.15% or 0.41 points to 5.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ECN Capital Corp (TSX:ECN), which lost 6.27% or 0.42 points to trade at 6.28 in late trade. Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) declined 2.38% or 0.25 points to end at 10.26 and Boralex Inc (TSX:BLX) shed 2.25% or 1.15 points to 50.04.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 629 to 356 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.16% to 19.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.52% or 9.15 to $1,770.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.29% or 2.17 to hit $92.72 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.68% or 1.70 to trade at $99.52 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 108.37.
