Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.27% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (TO:MAXR), which rose 14.29% or 8.11 points to trade at 64.86 at the close. Spin Master Corp (TO:TOY) added 7.31% or 3.65 points to end at 53.57 and MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) was up 7.22% or 0.53 points to 7.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K), which lost 11.61% or 0.62 points to trade at 4.72 in late trade. Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) declined 8.84% or 1.48 points to end at 15.26 and Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD) shed 7.32% or 1.210 points to 15.310.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 629 to 483 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.45% to 13.16.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.08% or 1.00 to $1312.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.13% or 2.16 to hit $71.22 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.21% or 2.40 to trade at $77.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.74% to 0.7779, while CAD/EUR rose 0.89% to 0.6565.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 92.95.
