Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE), which rose 7.35% or 0.180 points to trade at 2.630 at the close. Stars Group Inc (TO:TSGI) added 5.58% or 2.45 points to end at 46.35 and Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) was up 5.01% or 0.34 points to 7.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG), which lost 4.42% or 0.41 points to trade at 8.87 in late trade. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) declined 4.28% or 0.140 points to end at 3.130 and TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG) shed 4.12% or 0.32 points to 7.45.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 546 to 496 and 139 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.31% to 13.15.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.53% or 6.90 to $1293.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.97% or 1.32 to hit $65.72 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.10% or 0.85 to trade at $76.71 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.09% to 0.7711, while CAD/EUR rose 0.21% to 0.6615.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 94.18.
