Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Financials, Basic Materials and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.70% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which rose 7.06% or 1.39 points to trade at 21.09 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6) added 5.97% or 1.37 points to end at 24.33 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was up 5.00% or 0.50 points to 10.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which lost 0.73% or 0.06 points to trade at 8.13 in late trade. BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) declined 0.69% or 0.20 points to end at 28.90 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) shed 0.37% or 0.16 points to 43.08.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 318 to 109 and 28 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 7.15% to 29.39 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.39% or 18.74 to $1332.46 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.20% or 0.57 to hit $48.05 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.87% or 1.13 to trade at $131.70 .
USD/BRL was up 0.64% to 3.1063, while EUR/BRL fell 0.02% to 3.7131.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.68% at 91.93.
