Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which rose 6.59% or 0.38 points to trade at 6.15 at the close. Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) added 2.99% or 0.58 points to end at 19.95 and Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) was up 2.60% or 0.38 points to 14.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which lost 8.90% or 0.72 points to trade at 7.37 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 6.09% or 0.60 points to end at 9.26 and Light SA (SA:LIGT3) shed 5.62% or 1.04 points to 17.48.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 149 to 118 and 4 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.67% to 29.63 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.93% or 23.00 to $1215.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.08% or 0.66 to hit $60.09 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.09% or 0.12 to trade at $135.75 .
USD/BRL was up 0.46% to 3.0345, while EUR/BRL rose 1.64% to 3.4425.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.02% at 93.74.
