Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Consumer Durables and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 0.82% or 7.10 points to trade at 872.65 at the close. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 0.62% or 1.40 points to end at 227.70 and Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) was up 0.50% or 2.35 points to 470.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 4.27% or 7.20 points to trade at 161.60 in late trade. Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) declined 3.79% or 10.40 points to end at 263.80 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) shed 3.10% or 6.25 points to 195.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 0.51% to 227.25, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 0.38% to settle at 869.55 and Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which gained 0.26% to close at 463.75.
The worst performers were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which was down 3.56% to 264.00 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 3.09% to settle at 392.40 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 3.03% to 195.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1205 to 274 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1951 fell and 634 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.76% to 15.5525.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.09% or 1.05 to $1132.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.34% or 0.18 to hit $52.31 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.22 to trade at $54.24 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.27% to 68.016, while EUR/INR rose 0.67% to 71.1814.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.19% at 102.84.
