Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Services, Oil & Gas and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.51%, while the S&P 500 index declined 1.84%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 2.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which rose 2.98% or 17.06 points to trade at 589.83 at the close. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 2.95% or 7.94 points to end at 276.69 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 2.65% or 4.39 points to 170.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 26.06% or 7.57 points to trade at 21.48 in late trade. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) declined 8.84% or 16.28 points to end at 167.79 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shed 6.71% or 16.68 points to 232.00.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Clorox Co (NYSE:CLX) which rose 7.42% to 144.09, MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MKTX) which was up 6.06% to settle at 234.63 and Cboe Global Markets Inc (NYSE:CBOE) which gained 4.33% to close at 193.79.
The worst performers were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was down 26.06% to 21.48 in late trade, Microchip Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MCHP) which lost 10.60% to settle at 75.43 and Prudential Financial Inc (NYSE:PRU) which was down 9.98% to 110.26 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Netcapital Inc (NASDAQ:NCPL) which rose 5,480.36% to 3.75, Siyata Mobile Inc (NASDAQ:SYTA) which was up 1,598.11% to settle at 4.50 and Vsee Health Inc (NASDAQ:VSEE) which gained 74.90% to close at 4.25.
The worst performers were Gamer Pakistan Inc (NASDAQ:GPAK) which was down 46.49% to 0.09 in late trade, LogicMark Inc (NASDAQ:LGMK) which lost 39.12% to settle at 0.28 and Expion360 Inc (NASDAQ:XPON) which was down 34.44% to 0.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2228 to 636 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2861 fell and 514 advanced, while 93 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 25.82% to 23.39 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.04% or 1.05 to $2,481.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.87% or 2.19 to hit $74.12 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.67% or 2.12 to trade at $77.40 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.10% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 1.89% to 146.53.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.15% at 103.01.
