Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology, Financials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.41%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.93%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 1.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 1.65% or 2.43 points to trade at 149.70 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 1.43% or 2.18 points to end at 154.22 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 1.04% or 1.18 points to 114.74 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 3.28% or 0.77 points to trade at 22.69 in late trade. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 2.91% or 6.79 points to end at 226.21 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 2.23% or 9.61 points to 420.69.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Paychex Inc (NASDAQ:PAYX) which rose 4.92% to 140.79, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) which was up 4.91% to settle at 25.66 and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) which gained 3.88% to close at 109.37.
The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 90.26% to 40.55 in late trade, Humana Inc (NYSE:HUM) which lost 11.77% to settle at 279.45 and Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which was down 5.82% to 52.30 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:BCLI) which rose 1,313.04% to 3.25, Paranovus Entertainment Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:PAVS) which was up 92.93% to settle at 0.93 and Jowell Global Ltd. (NASDAQ:JWEL) which gained 41.11% to close at 2.54.
The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 90.26% to 40.55 in late trade, Gritstone Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:GRTS) which lost 62.07% to settle at 0.22 and Applied DNA Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:APDN) which was down 47.08% to 0.34 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1713 to 1105 and 79 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2421 fell and 882 advanced, while 99 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 15.12% to 19.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.82% or 21.90 to $2,681.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.67% or 2.50 to hit $70.67 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 3.65% or 2.62 to trade at $74.32 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.61% to 1.11, while USD/JPY fell 0.02% to 143.59.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 100.96.
