Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.15%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.20%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which rose 1.18% or 1.99 points to trade at 170.41 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 1.16% or 4.20 points to end at 367.27 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) was up 1.13% or 0.83 points to 74.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 4.20% or 7.54 points to trade at 172.10 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 2.46% or 0.53 points to end at 20.99 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) shed 1.75% or 0.94 points to 52.71.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Palo Alto Networks Inc (NASDAQ:PANW) which rose 7.18% to 368.01, Darden Restaurants Inc (NYSE:DRI) which was up 3.65% to settle at 155.15 and PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) which gained 3.54% to close at 71.89.
The worst performers were Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) which was down 6.87% to 182.47 in late trade, DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:DXCM) which lost 6.23% to settle at 72.85 and Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) which was down 4.99% to 132.39 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Redhill Biopharma Ltd (NASDAQ:RDHL) which rose 2,622.74% to 8.74, Cadrenal Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CVKD) which was up 1,686.87% to settle at 7.18 and InMed Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:INM) which gained 191.22% to close at 0.43.
The worst performers were ENDRA Life Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NDRA) which was down 59.51% to 0.66 in late trade, Mynaric AG ADR (NASDAQ:MYNA) which lost 56.22% to settle at 1.83 and Yoshiharu Global Co (NASDAQ:YOSH) which was down 34.78% to 4.80 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1878 to 930 and 111 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2217 fell and 1108 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 8.40% to 15.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.52% or 13.20 to $2,554.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.68% or 0.50 to hit $73.16 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.59% or 0.46 to trade at $77.20 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.40% to 1.11, while USD/JPY fell 0.90% to 145.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.50% at 101.23.
