Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Utilities and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.87%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.18%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 2.64% or 2.13 points to trade at 82.94 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 2.65% or 5.35 points to end at 207.36 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) was up 2.58% or 4.64 points to 184.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which lost 1.68% or 2.67 points to trade at 156.41 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 1.67% or 0.37 points to end at 21.81 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) shed 1.59% or 4.01 points to 248.22.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Pioneer Natural Resources Co (NYSE:PXD) which rose 10.45% to 237.43, MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MKTX) which was up 5.82% to settle at 238.73 and MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) which gained 4.86% to close at 36.48.
The worst performers were Domino’s Pizza Inc (NYSE:DPZ) which was down 5.95% to 341.60 in late trade, Church & Dwight Company Inc (NYSE:CHD) which lost 4.70% to settle at 85.99 and Lamb Weston Holdings Inc (NYSE:LW) which was down 4.38% to 93.47 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Parazero Technologies Ltd Unit (NASDAQ:PRZO) which rose 79.12% to 1.16, T2 Biosystms Inc (NASDAQ:TTOO) which was up 35.67% to settle at 0.26 and Vaccinex Inc (NASDAQ:VCNX) which gained 34.11% to close at 1.10.
The worst performers were VivoPower International PLC (NASDAQ:VVPR) which was down 47.52% to 1.68 in late trade, Omniq Corp (NASDAQ:OMQS) which lost 45.86% to settle at 0.85 and Jin Medical International Ltd (NASDAQ:ZJYL) which was down 41.08% to 13.77 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1960 to 953 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2157 rose and 1291 declined, while 131 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.62% to 17.45.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.66% or 12.15 to $1,843.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.72% or 0.59 to hit $82.90 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.50% or 0.42 to trade at $84.49 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.35% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.56% to 149.32.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 105.86.
