Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Industrials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.62% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.55%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.96% or 0.99 points to trade at 34.49 at the close. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) added 2.53% or 4.52 points to end at 182.83 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 1.80% or 5.85 points to 330.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which lost 1.21% or 2.51 points to trade at 204.94 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 0.94% or 1.21 points to end at 127.76 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 0.87% or 1.60 points to 182.31.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which rose 6.86% to 119.34, Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE:BK) which was up 5.23% to settle at 64.69 and Accenture plc (NYSE:ACN) which gained 4.24% to close at 310.63.
The worst performers were Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) which was down 5.97% to 56.57 in late trade, Align Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ALGN) which lost 5.33% to settle at 242.65 and West Pharmaceutical Services Inc (NYSE:WST) which was down 3.10% to 322.98 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were IM Cannabis Corp (NASDAQ:IMCC) which rose 569.38% to 2.47, Qualigen Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:QLGN) which was up 111.45% to settle at 0.43 and Vicinity Motor Corp (NASDAQ:VEV) which gained 110.98% to close at 0.71.
The worst performers were Shineco Inc (NASDAQ:SISI) which was down 60.38% to 0.84 in late trade, Monterey Capital Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:MCAC) which lost 49.50% to settle at 3.54 and Kazia Therapeutics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:KZIA) which was down 27.76% to 0.90 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2120 to 726 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2321 rose and 1028 declined, while 126 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.56% to 12.46.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.22% or 5.30 to $2,416.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.45% or 0.37 to hit $82.25 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.42% or 0.36 to trade at $85.04 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.56% to 157.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 103.79.
