Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, Financials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.48% to hit a new 52-week high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.46%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 1.75% or 4.42 points to trade at 256.52 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 1.57% or 2.65 points to end at 171.04 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 1.20% or 3.08 points to 259.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which lost 1.27% or 1.83 points to trade at 142.52 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 1.21% or 1.12 points to end at 91.08 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) shed 1.12% or 0.50 points to 44.04.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) which rose 8.45% to 61.86, Linde PLC Ord (NYSE:LIN) which was up 4.53% to settle at 426.72 and Alaska Air Group Inc (NYSE:ALK) which gained 4.42% to close at 37.33.
The worst performers were Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) which was down 12.46% to 100.79 in late trade, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which lost 5.97% to settle at 15.27 and Johnson Controls International PLC (NYSE:JCI) which was down 5.96% to 53.20 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were C4 Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CCCC) which rose 98.31% to 2.34, Aditx Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ADTX) which was up 60.26% to settle at 6.09 and Icosavax Inc (NASDAQ:ICVX) which gained 49.48% to close at 15.68.
The worst performers were EF Hutton Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:EFHT) which was down 59.92% to 2.93 in late trade, Green Giant Inc (NASDAQ:GGE) which lost 44.08% to settle at 0.09 and Achieve Life Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:ACHV) which was down 42.20% to 3.15 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1583 to 1291 and 100 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2057 fell and 1430 advanced, while 112 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.43% to 12.07 a new 3-year low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.08% or 1.65 to $1,995.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.37% or 2.40 to hit $68.92 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.28% or 2.49 to trade at $73.54 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.46% to 145.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 103.40.
