Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Financials and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.15%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.25%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 1.61% or 7.25 points to trade at 457.43 at the close. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) added 1.57% or 0.62 points to end at 40.08 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 1.25% or 4.37 points to 353.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 1.91% or 3.40 points to trade at 174.99 in late trade. Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) declined 1.67% or 8.18 points to end at 481.05 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) shed 1.13% or 0.35 points to 30.63.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which rose 6.34% to 16.11, Teradyne Inc (NASDAQ:TER) which was up 4.84% to settle at 151.75 and United Rentals Inc (NYSE:URI) which gained 4.13% to close at 644.89.
The worst performers were Ball Corporation (NYSE:BALL) which was down 6.29% to 62.26 in late trade, Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) which lost 4.98% to settle at 148.72 and West Pharmaceutical Services Inc (NYSE:WST) which was down 4.17% to 322.07 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Comtech Telecommunications Corp (NASDAQ:CMTL) which rose 87.56% to 4.07, Actelis Networks Inc (NASDAQ:ASNS) which was up 84.35% to settle at 2.12 and NLS Pharmaceutics AG (NASDAQ:NLSP) which gained 82.13% to close at 0.27.
The worst performers were Solidion Technology Inc (NASDAQ:STI) which was down 64.35% to 0.69 in late trade, DermTech Inc (NASDAQ:DMTK) which lost 56.24% to settle at 0.15 and Zentalis Pharmaceuticals Llc (NASDAQ:ZNTL) which was down 50.66% to 4.14 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 0 to 0; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 0 fell and 0 advanced on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.46% to 12.48.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.18% or 4.20 to $2,342.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.09% or 0.07 to hit $80.64 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.06 to trade at $85.27 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.13% to 158.06.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 104.88.
