Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.14% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.87%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 4.85% or 1.22 points to trade at 26.27 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 3.11% or 4.57 points to end at 151.73 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 2.75% or 10.69 points to 399.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which lost 4.37% or 10.79 points to trade at 236.27 in late trade. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 2.92% or 8.63 points to end at 286.53 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) shed 1.94% or 8.07 points to 408.81.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) which rose 15.56% to 234.23, Viatris Inc (NASDAQ:VTRS) which was up 13.57% to settle at 13.19 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which gained 12.23% to close at 9.40.
The worst performers were Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH) which was down 17.44% to 31.28 in late trade, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) which lost 10.45% to settle at 22.15 and CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) which was down 6.48% to 57.62 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Webuy Global Ltd (NASDAQ:WBUY) which rose 168.27% to 0.31, Celularity Inc (NASDAQ:CELU) which was up 110.34% to settle at 3.05 and Nature’s Miracle Holding Inc (NASDAQ:NMHI) which gained 80.91% to close at 0.18.
The worst performers were Digital Turbine Inc (NASDAQ:APPS) which was down 44.75% to 1.79 in late trade, Alto Ingredients Inc (NASDAQ:ALTO) which lost 38.14% to settle at 1.20 and Simpple Ltd (NASDAQ:SPPL) which was down 35.29% to 0.88 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1734 to 1072 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1679 rose and 1589 declined, while 79 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.21% to 15.26 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.47% or 39.30 to $2,715.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.60% or 0.43 to hit $72.12 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.73% or 0.55 to trade at $75.47 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.69% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 1.13% to 152.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.71% at 104.24.
