Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.14%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.42%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.00% or 0.42 points to trade at 21.41 at the close. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 1.43% or 4.08 points to end at 289.71 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 1.20% or 1.53 points to 129.23 in late trade.
Biggest losers included American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which lost 2.68% or 6.78 points to trade at 246.30 in late trade. Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) declined 0.44% or 2.58 points to end at 578.07 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) shed 0.29% or 0.75 points to 261.09.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS) which rose 13.88% to 157.81, Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) which was up 11.20% to settle at 159.25 and TJX Companies Inc (NYSE:TJX) which gained 6.11% to close at 120.23.
The worst performers were Franklin Resources Inc (NYSE:BEN) which was down 12.56% to 19.78 in late trade, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) which lost 2.68% to settle at 246.30 and Cooper Companies Inc (NASDAQ:COO) which was down 2.33% to 93.66 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were GD Culture Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GDC) which rose 128.49% to 3.93, Revelation Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:REVB) which was up 100.96% to settle at 2.09 and Stronghold Digital Mining Inc (NASDAQ:SDIG) which gained 82.25% to close at 5.34.
The worst performers were Bimi International Medical Inc (NASDAQ:BIMI) which was down 35.42% to 0.31 in late trade, ENDRA Life Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NDRA) which lost 32.27% to settle at 0.45 and Eyenovia Inc (NASDAQ:EYEN) which was down 31.62% to 0.47 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2111 to 720 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2289 rose and 1004 declined, while 153 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.46% to 16.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.70 to $2,549.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.68% or 1.23 to hit $71.94 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.44% or 1.11 to trade at $76.09 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 1.12, while USD/JPY fell 0.03% to 145.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 101.04.
