Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.31%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.22%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:KO), which rose 1.28% or 0.52 points to trade at 41.08 at the close. Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) added 0.92% or 0.33 points to end at 36.06 and Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) was up 0.81% or 1.16 points to 144.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX), which lost 4.89% or 4.55 points to trade at 88.48 in late trade. Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) declined 4.58% or 3.80 points to end at 79.21 and Visa Inc (NYSE:V) shed 1.36% or 1.04 points to 75.34.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:EXPE) which rose 12.85% to 121.44, Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc (NYSE:CCE) which was up 12.41% to settle at 51.08 and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (NYSE:RCL) which gained 8.59% to close at 89.85.
The worst performers were Hanesbrands Inc (NYSE:HBI) which was down 9.11% to 31.03 in late trade, Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) which lost 8.15% to settle at 46.75 and Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was down 6.68% to 18.57 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Wave Systems Corp (NASDAQ:WAVX) which rose 54.53% to 0.210, Net Element International, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETE) which was up 54.10% to settle at 0.37 and Moneygram Int (NASDAQ:MGI) which gained 29.44% to close at 10.20.
The worst performers were Rada Electronic Industries Ltd (NASDAQ:RADA) which was down 32.97% to 1.230 in late trade, Warren Resources Inc (NASDAQ:WRES) which lost 28.86% to settle at 0.355 and ParkerVision Inc (NASDAQ:PRKR) which was down 26.25% to 0.340 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1747 to 1338 and 5 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1545 rose and 1235 declined, while 6 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.08% to 12.12.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.56% or 6.10 to $1094.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.60% or 1.75 to hit $46.77 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.99% or 1.59 to trade at $51.72 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.46% to 1.0983, while USD/JPY fell 0.21% to 123.88.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.30% at 97.32.
