Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrials, Financials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.06%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.17%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE), which rose 2.42% or 0.83 points to trade at 35.08 at the close. McDonald's Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 1.62% or 1.57 points to end at 98.62 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 1.23% or 2.00 points to 164.88 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which lost 1.13% or 1.33 points to trade at 116.16 in late trade. Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) declined 0.99% or 1.53 points to end at 152.97 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) shed 0.96% or 0.59 points to 61.16.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:ATI) which rose 6.64% to 31.50, Tiffany & Co (NYSE:TIF) which was up 5.82% to settle at 87.76 and Noble Corporation PLC (NYSE:NE) which gained 5.32% to close at 14.45.
The worst performers were Kansas City Southern (NYSE:KSU) which was down 7.95% to 106.49 in late trade, Celgene Corporation (NASDAQ:CELG) which lost 4.23% to settle at 123.07 and CSX Corporation (NYSE:CSX) which was down 4.08% to 33.73 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Rada Electronics Industries Limited (NASDAQ:RADA) which rose 69.19% to 2.910, Origin Agritech Limited (NASDAQ:SEED) which was up 50.00% to settle at 1.560 and Joes Jeans Inc (NASDAQ:JOEZ) which gained 31.82% to close at 0.145.
The worst performers were MEI Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:MEIP) which was down 69.13% to 1.945 in late trade, Aquinox Pha (NASDAQ:AQXP) which lost 16.68% to settle at 9.02 and Dover Saddlery Inc (NASDAQ:DOVR) which was down 13.37% to 4.34 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1555 to 1253 and 1 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1489 rose and 1286 declined, while 8 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.84% to 13.39.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.47% or 5.60 to $1190.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in May rose 1.66% or 0.78 to hit $47.34 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.47 to trade at $55.80 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.23% to 1.0953, while USD/JPY fell 0.26% to 119.72.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.87% at 97.19.
