Investing.com – India equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, IT and Carbon sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Real Estate, Consumer Durables and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 3.11% or 37.10 points to trade at 1,229.00 at the close. HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) added 3.06% or 49.20 points to end at 1,657.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 1.92% or 21.60 points to 1,144.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN), which lost 3.60% or 129.25 points to trade at 3,459.75 in late trade. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) declined 2.60% or 326.95 points to end at 12,234.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) shed 2.41% or 34.45 points to 1,393.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 3.17% to 1,229.00, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 2.97% to settle at 1,656.45 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 1.87% to close at 1,535.35.
The worst performers were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 3.49% to 3,461.15 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 2.43% to settle at 12,254.95 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 2.39% to 1,394.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1373 to 883 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2132 fell and 1587 advanced, while 97 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.77% to 13.71.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.15% or 3.55 to $2,343.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.19% or 0.15 to hit $80.56 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.13% or 0.11 to trade at $85.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.09% to 83.44, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 89.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 104.84.
