India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.65%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Auto, Capital Goods and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.65%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.66%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which rose 14.26% or 72.05 points to trade at 573.10 at the close. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) added 9.74% or 113.20 points to end at 1274.75 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 3.87% or 16.35 points to 439.25 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 10.89% or 8.95 points to trade at 73.60 in late trade. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 5.87% or 32.00 points to end at 512.40 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) shed 6.07% or 207.70 points to 3221.85.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 9.72% to 1275.00, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 3.71% to settle at 437.55 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 0.05% to close at 202.15.

The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 10.35% to 73.60 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 6.11% to settle at 512.30 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 5.72% to 3222.40 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1117 to 447 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1586 fell and 824 advanced, while 138 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 12.20% to 17.7775 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.55% or 23.45 to $1540.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.15% or 0.08 to hit $55.01 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.10% or 0.06 to trade at $58.63 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.05% to 71.228, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 79.8850.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 97.203.
