India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.53%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.53%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.66%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 4.06% or 16.30 points to trade at 414.70 at the close. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) added 2.22% or 2.90 points to end at 133.25 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 1.97% or 4.30 points to 223.05 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which lost 3.34% or 10.80 points to trade at 312.85 in late trade. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) declined 3.01% or 87.05 points to end at 2799.55 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) shed 2.24% or 43.70 points to 1905.05.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.00% to 436.75, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was up 1.92% to settle at 222.95 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 1.57% to close at 487.95.

The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 2.63% to 2807.25 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 2.18% to settle at 1905.60 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.57% to 275.40 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 926 to 648 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1418 fell and 1025 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.57% to 15.7500.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.36% or 4.75 to $1316.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.01% or 0.53 to hit $52.94 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.11% or 0.68 to trade at $62.19 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.61% to 70.800, while EUR/INR fell 0.40% to 79.8815.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 96.820.
