Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Auto and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.50% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which rose 4.63% or 33.80 points to trade at 763.05 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) added 4.26% or 6.25 points to end at 152.95 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 1.86% or 2.90 points to 159.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which lost 2.68% or 22.00 points to trade at 798.95 in late trade. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) declined 2.39% or 62.25 points to end at 2536.95 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) shed 2.35% or 184.55 points to 7669.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 1.45% to 2012.00, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 1.42% to settle at 135.40 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.11% to close at 760.20.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 2.62% to 7645.00 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 2.01% to settle at 1697.50 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.60% to 227.90 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1020 to 728 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1912 rose and 1279 declined, while 133 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.11% to 17.0950.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.37% or 6.65 to $1790.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.19% or 0.15 to hit $78.35 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.22 to trade at $82.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 74.398, while EUR/INR fell 0.32% to 83.4345.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 96.705.
