Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Power, Public Sector Undertakings and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.50%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 5.38% or 2.00 points to trade at 39.20 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 4.38% or 23.65 points to end at 563.60 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was up 2.46% or 14.25 points to 593.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which lost 5.49% or 7.15 points to trade at 123.15 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 5.45% or 13.35 points to end at 231.50 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 3.72% or 45.75 points to 1185.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 4.69% to 565.10, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 1.42% to settle at 621.40 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 0.90% to close at 545.85.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 4.38% to 1176.35 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 3.26% to settle at 184.15 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.41% to 319.55 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1024 to 521 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1540 fell and 858 advanced, while 160 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.83% to 13.6150.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.02% or 0.25 to $1578.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.23% or 0.63 to hit $52.05 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.37% or 0.77 to trade at $57.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.09% to 71.384, while EUR/INR rose 0.11% to 77.3985.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 98.995.
