Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Capital Goods and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.42%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 1.91% or 46.85 points to trade at 2,504.10 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 1.55% or 24.55 points to end at 1,610.55 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was up 1.52% or 26.80 points to 1,789.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which lost 2.71% or 9.90 points to trade at 355.60 in late trade. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) declined 2.35% or 56.40 points to end at 2,344.95 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) shed 2.01% or 93.70 points to 4,556.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 1.56% to 1,610.70, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 1.29% to settle at 997.65 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 1.22% to close at 1,781.90.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.59% to 356.10 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 2.36% to settle at 2,346.00 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 1.46% to 787.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1776 to 699 and 151 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2380 fell and 1447 advanced, while 102 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.40% to 13.22 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.32% or 8.86 to $2,747.84 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $70.36 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $73.54 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 84.89, while EUR/INR rose 0.17% to 89.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 106.27.
