Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Banking and Carbon sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.26%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 5.46% or 27.85 points to trade at 537.80 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 5.11% or 35.05 points to end at 721.00 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was up 4.98% or 30.05 points to 633.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 2.74% or 581.35 points to trade at 20620.00 in late trade. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) declined 1.84% or 38.85 points to end at 2070.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) shed 1.66% or 17.40 points to 1033.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 4.27% to 531.75, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 2.63% to settle at 191.45 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.20% to close at 611.00.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.98% to 2066.95 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 1.69% to settle at 1032.65 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.52% to 1716.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 892 to 697 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1349 fell and 1157 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.16% to 24.1925.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.49% or 28.90 to $1971.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.58% or 0.23 to hit $40.15 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.17 to trade at $43.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 74.815, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 88.6710.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 92.820.
