Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.13%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 3.32% or 7.35 points to trade at 228.30 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 3.67% or 6.05 points to end at 169.40 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) was up 2.13% or 3.00 points to 144.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which lost 3.62% or 74.60 points to trade at 1983.45 in late trade. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) declined 2.87% or 586.15 points to end at 19869.10 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) shed 1.96% or 136.55 points to 6829.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 3.16% to 228.35, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 2.88% to settle at 169.40 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 1.83% to close at 141.60.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 3.38% to 1984.25 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.77% to settle at 6832.25 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 1.49% to 2634.95 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 975 to 593 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1415 rose and 992 declined, while 150 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.28% to 18.2775.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.42% or 5.60 to $1326.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.61% or 0.35 to hit $56.59 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.81% or 0.54 to trade at $66.04 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.19% to 71.100, while EUR/INR rose 0.21% to 81.1045.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 95.812.
