Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Oil & Gas and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.00% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which rose 6.21% or 21.55 points to trade at 365.90 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 5.61% or 24.90 points to end at 467.45 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 4.58% or 30.25 points to 690.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which lost 4.81% or 33.60 points to trade at 672.90 in late trade. Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 3.22% or 11.25 points to end at 338.15 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) shed 2.95% or 75.65 points to 2499.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 5.29% to 365.25, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 5.14% to settle at 467.60 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 4.56% to close at 690.90.
The worst performers were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 2.65% to 2498.85 in late trade, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which lost 2.35% to settle at 1221.50 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 1.74% to 1885.50 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 874 to 696 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1324 rose and 1083 declined, while 156 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.13% to 17.8500.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.22% or 2.85 to $1311.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.56% or 0.30 to hit $53.61 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.36 to trade at $61.56 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.27% to 71.206, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 81.4160.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 95.472.
