Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.44%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 5.01% or 12.30 points to trade at 257.90 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 4.15% or 149.50 points to end at 3,753.00 and Bharat Electronics Ltd (NS:BAJE) was up 4.09% or 11.50 points to 292.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which lost 2.46% or 24.05 points to trade at 953.30 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 0.85% or 14.85 points to end at 1,732.60 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) shed 0.66% or 12.55 points to 1,889.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 4.14% to 3,753.90, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 3.55% to settle at 845.05 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 2.13% to close at 583.55.
The worst performers were JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which was down 2.31% to 954.25 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 0.84% to settle at 1,733.00 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 0.40% to 1,895.25 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1806 to 710 and 145 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2523 rose and 1344 declined, while 161 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.09% to 15.28.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.48% or 40.50 to $2,696.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.60% or 0.43 to hit $70.81 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.55% or 0.41 to trade at $74.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 84.29, while EUR/INR rose 0.53% to 88.44.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.58% at 106.88.
