Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Carbon and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.24%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 6.34% or 25.80 points to trade at 432.45 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 5.27% or 22.40 points to end at 447.60 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) was up 5.20% or 303.70 points to 6148.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which lost 2.14% or 2.05 points to trade at 93.75 in late trade. Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) declined 2.06% or 354.45 points to end at 16820.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) shed 1.99% or 18.80 points to 924.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 6.58% to 433.25, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was up 5.25% to settle at 6147.00 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 4.49% to close at 1833.40.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.18% to 499.55 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 2.14% to settle at 93.80 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 2.10% to 924.25 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 856 to 761 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1400 rose and 1210 declined, while 105 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.43% to 28.1175 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.40% or 7.25 to $1793.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.16% or 0.85 to hit $40.12 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.16% or 0.89 to trade at $42.16 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 75.577, while EUR/INR fell 0.20% to 84.6715.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 97.468.
