Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Banking and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.94% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which rose 2.52% or 109.65 points to trade at 4,464.05 at the close. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) added 2.41% or 45.60 points to end at 1,934.85 and Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) was up 2.28% or 76.60 points to 3,441.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL), which lost 1.43% or 20.75 points to trade at 1,431.85 in late trade. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 1.19% or 107.20 points to end at 8,891.95 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) shed 1.09% or 7.10 points to 643.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 2.29% to 4,455.00, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was up 2.26% to settle at 3,438.55 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 2.20% to close at 1,931.90.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.82% to 369.65 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 0.06% to settle at 2,458.10 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 0.01% to 999.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1251 to 1198 and 176 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2016 rose and 1769 declined, while 117 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.78% to 14.34.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.13% or 3.49 to $2,672.71 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.35% or 0.24 to hit $68.78 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.22 to trade at $72.53 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 84.69, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 89.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 106.19.
