Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.60%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 2.84% or 10.30 points to trade at 372.70 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 2.63% or 70.85 points to end at 2766.70 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 2.20% or 8.00 points to 371.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 2.80% or 13.55 points to trade at 470.90 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 2.40% or 4.65 points to end at 188.80 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) shed 1.76% or 12.85 points to 720.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 2.60% to 2764.20, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 2.55% to settle at 371.60 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 2.15% to close at 1263.55.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 2.81% to 188.55 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.72% to settle at 719.50 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 1.56% to 94.45 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1076 to 534 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1605 rose and 990 declined, while 139 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.30% to 15.6100.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.13% or 1.65 to $1286.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.95% or 0.54 to hit $56.02 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.30% or 0.20 to trade at $65.66 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.19% to 70.331, while EUR/INR fell 0.27% to 79.4765.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 96.873.
