Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.31%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which rose 8.54% or 14.10 points to trade at 179.20 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) added 7.38% or 15.20 points to end at 221.20 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 5.77% or 60.55 points to 1109.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 10.75% or 24.90 points to trade at 206.75 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 6.68% or 16.10 points to end at 222.55 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) shed 3.43% or 24.50 points to 694.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 7.08% to 220.80, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 5.53% to settle at 1107.95 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 5.14% to close at 2881.75.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 10.78% to 206.85 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 2.62% to settle at 1670.15 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.14% to 318.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1211 to 422 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1866 fell and 702 advanced, while 159 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.10% to 20.1475 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.66% or 7.90 to $1197.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.35% or 1.00 to hit $73.34 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.54% or 1.30 to trade at $82.86 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.11% to 74.025, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 84.9155.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 95.65.
