Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Power, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.19% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 2.80% or 11.80 points to trade at 433.45 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 2.37% or 58.60 points to end at 2532.20 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 1.45% or 2.80 points to 196.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 7.80% or 39.15 points to trade at 462.70 in late trade. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) declined 3.07% or 23.55 points to end at 743.65 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) shed 2.51% or 17.40 points to 676.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.98% to 433.10, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.74% to settle at 195.85 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 1.62% to close at 770.80.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.48% to 676.35 in late trade, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which lost 1.29% to settle at 335.40 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 1.21% to 178.90 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 879 to 685 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1378 rose and 1092 declined, while 151 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.26% to 14.5775.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.08% or 1.05 to $1252.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.07% or 1.54 to hit $48.66 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.73% or 1.63 to trade at $57.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 1.05% to 70.845, while EUR/INR fell 0.76% to 80.6410.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 96.322.
