Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Auto and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.05% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 5.32% or 6.45 points to trade at 127.65 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 4.75% or 165.95 points to end at 3658.00 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was up 3.38% or 6.80 points to 208.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which lost 1.72% or 1.75 points to trade at 99.85 in late trade. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 1.52% or 1.60 points to end at 103.80 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) shed 1.40% or 7.45 points to 526.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 4.39% to 3643.90, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 3.28% to settle at 208.00 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 2.25% to close at 738.95.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.61% to 103.75 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 1.38% to settle at 526.00 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.37% to 16309.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 868 to 751 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1395 fell and 1250 advanced, while 138 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.44% to 19.3150.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.37% or 7.20 to $1932.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.26% or 0.11 to hit $42.73 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.30 to trade at $45.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 74.226, while EUR/INR rose 0.49% to 87.8465.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 93.045.
