Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Retail and Software sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Technology and Construction sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.09%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.07%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.23%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which rose 2.50% or 1.240 points to trade at 50.860 at the close. Covestro AG (DE:1COV) added 1.60% or 0.800 points to end at 50.700 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) was up 1.34% or 0.220 points to 16.665 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG), which lost 4.31% or 5.95 points to trade at 132.05 in late trade. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) declined 1.38% or 0.250 points to end at 17.900 and Muench. Rueckvers. VNA O.N. (DE:MUVGn) shed 1.35% or 2.65 points to 193.35.

The top performers on the MDAX were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which rose 4.63% to 15.720, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was up 3.86% to settle at 20.030 and Osram Licht AG (DE:OSRn) which gained 2.77% to close at 40.38.

The worst performers were Schaeffler AG Pref (DE:SHA_p) which was down 4.45% to 7.34 in late trade, Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which lost 3.96% to settle at 37.88 and GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which was down 3.39% to 23.100 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 19.65% to 22.040, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen O.N. (DE:HDDG) which was up 4.34% to settle at 1.9460 and Adler Real Estate AG (DE:ADLG) which gained 3.80% to close at 14.74.

The worst performers were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 2.90% to 47.480 in late trade, Hapag Lloyd AG (DE:HLAG) which lost 2.20% to settle at 29.3400 and DMG Mori AG (DE:GILG) which was down 2.04% to 43.150 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 384 to 316 and 81 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.26% to 19.44.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.90% or 11.00 to $1230.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.60% or 0.31 to hit $51.87 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.24 to trade at $60.64 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.62% to 1.1358, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8863.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 96.808.
