Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Retail, Software and Construction sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Industrial, Basic Resources and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.20%, while the MDAX index gained 0.51%, and the TecDAX index gained 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which rose 2.40% or 0.325 points to trade at 13.840 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (XETRA:CONG) added 1.95% or 4.300 points to end at 224.850 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) was up 1.43% or 3.500 points to 248.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Siemens AG NA (XETRA:SIEGn), which lost 4.18% or 4.400 points to trade at 100.950 in late trade. K & S AG NA O.N. (XETRA:SDFGN) declined 3.62% or 1.165 points to end at 30.975 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG) shed 1.63% or 0.400 points to 24.095.
The top performers on the MDAX were Rheinmetall AG (XETRA:RHMG) which rose 4.38% to 46.940, Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which was up 3.61% to settle at 54.600 and Kloeckner & Co SE NA (XETRA:KCOGn) which gained 2.89% to close at 9.065.
The worst performers were Kion Group AG (XETRA:KGX) which was down 3.57% to 37.10 in late trade, Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which lost 1.65% to settle at 16.385 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (XETRA:WCHG) which was down 1.30% to 110.200 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which rose 6.40% to 12.135, Cancom SE O.N. (XETRA:COKG) which was up 4.70% to settle at 37.200 and Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which gained 4.30% to close at 4.100.
The worst performers were Bechtle AG O.N. (XETRA:BC8G) which was down 0.65% to 73.680 in late trade, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (XETRA:AFXG) which lost 0.24% to settle at 24.730 and BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which was down 0.16% to 316.650 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 491 to 235 and 38 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 1.62% to 19.38.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 1.41% or 16.20 to $1167.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in May fell 3.24% or 1.51 to hit $45.14 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract fell 3.25% or 1.81 to trade at $54.09 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 2.06% to 1.0644, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.7220.
The US Dollar Index was up 2.20% at 99.52.
