Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Utilities and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.67%, while the MDAX index fell 1.42%, and the TecDAX index declined 1.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN), which rose 1.95% or 2.450 points to trade at 128.000 at the close. Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn) added 0.61% or 0.430 points to end at 70.430 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) was down 0.17% or 0.110 points to 65.100 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 5.56% or 0.680 points to trade at 11.540 in late trade. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) declined 4.98% or 0.630 points to end at 12.010 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) shed 4.28% or 0.465 points to 10.395.
The top performers on the MDAX were STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which rose 0.98% to 45.965, Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which was up 0.93% to settle at 114.350 and GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which gained 0.51% to close at 42.175.
The worst performers were Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was down 6.29% to 7.95 in late trade, CTS Eventim AG (DE:EVDG) which lost 4.54% to settle at 26.190 and Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which was down 3.31% to 27.73 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which rose 2.58% to 14.295, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was up 1.35% to settle at 35.950 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which gained 0.92% to close at 43.730.
The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 4.99% to 24.570 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 4.01% to settle at 7.066 and Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 3.67% to 24.025 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 700 to 199 and 14 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 6.60% to 25.53.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.71% or 9.65 to $1368.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.92% or 0.43 to hit $47.03 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.30 to trade at $48.26 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.10% to 1.1087, while EUR/GBP rose 0.78% to 0.8570.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 96.22.
