Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Food & Beverage, Chemicals and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.19%, while the MDAX index lost 1.23%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.94%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn), which rose 0.76% or 0.085 points to trade at 11.260 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DBKGn) added 0.71% or 0.225 points to end at 31.875 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (XETRA:CBKG) was up 0.52% or 0.065 points to 12.670 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p), which lost 3.70% or 9.250 points to trade at 240.800 in late trade. Continental AG O.N. (XETRA:CONG) declined 3.19% or 7.200 points to end at 218.800 and Daimler AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DAIGn) shed 3.07% or 2.810 points to 88.700.

The top performers on the MDAX were Kloeckner & Co SE NA (XETRA:KCOGn) which rose 1.08% to 9.189, Gerresheimer AG (XETRA:GXId) which was up 0.78% to settle at 53.130 and Rhoen-Klinikum O.N. (XETRA:RHKG) which gained 0.67% to close at 22.660.

The worst performers were Talanx AG NA O.N. (XETRA:TLXGn) which was down 5.46% to 29.425 in late trade, Airbus Group (XETRA:AIRG) which lost 2.90% to settle at 60.009 and Kion Group AG (XETRA:KGX) which was down 2.87% to 37.44 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which rose 1.70% to 4.243, Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which was up 1.52% to settle at 44.205 and Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which gained 1.52% to close at 5.952.

The worst performers were BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which was down 4.97% to 294.200 in late trade, Jenoptik AG O.N. (XETRA:JENG) which lost 3.52% to settle at 12.890 and Bechtle AG O.N. (XETRA:BC8G) which was down 3.07% to 70.730 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 527 to 214 and 34 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.88% to 19.33.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.17% or 2.00 to $1186.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in May rose 0.39% or 0.18 to hit $46.75 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.06 to trade at $55.27 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.90% to 1.0917, while EUR/GBP rose 1.11% to 0.7312.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.60% at 97.46.
