Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Software, Basic Resources and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 1.61%, while the MDAX index gained 0.71%, and the TecDAX index climbed 1.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which rose 6.01% or 7.000 points to trade at 123.450 at the close. SAP AG O.N. (DE:SAPG) added 5.68% or 4.070 points to end at 75.720 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) was up 2.98% or 3.950 points to 136.600 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which lost 0.20% or 0.012 points to trade at 5.874 in late trade. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) declined 0.09% or 0.010 points to end at 11.095 and Deutsche Boerse AG (DE:DB1Gn) shed 0.04% or 0.030 points to 75.240.
The top performers on the MDAX were Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which rose 6.70% to 44.930, Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which was up 5.77% to settle at 29.900 and Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which gained 2.52% to close at 58.650.
The worst performers were Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which was down 6.02% to 113.100 in late trade, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which lost 0.61% to settle at 32.35 and Brenntag AG (DE:BNRGn) which was down 0.59% to 45.340 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which rose 5.88% to 89.900, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was up 5.35% to settle at 7.721 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 3.84% to close at 53.490.
The worst performers were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 1.50% to 3.488 in late trade, Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which lost 0.64% to settle at 33.600 and Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which was down 0.22% to 24.675 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 468 to 233 and 28 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.07% to 18.85 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.05% or 14.05 to $1318.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.03% or 0.47 to hit $45.92 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.46% or 0.68 to trade at $47.34 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.15% to 1.1004, while EUR/GBP fell 0.64% to 0.8353.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 97.19.
