Germany shares higher at close of trade; DAX up 0.88%

Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Insurance, Technology and Consumer & Cyclical sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.88%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.55%, and the TecDAX index gained 0.69%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Muench. Rueckvers. VNA O.N. (DE:MUVGn), which rose 2.78% or 5.05 points to trade at 186.95 at the close. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 2.74% or 4.30 points to end at 161.00 and Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) was up 2.71% or 5.10 points to 193.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which lost 0.94% or 0.087 points to trade at 9.141 in late trade. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) declined 0.81% or 0.77 points to end at 94.84 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) shed 0.53% or 0.105 points to 19.815.

The top performers on the MDAX were Rational AG (BS:RAAd) which rose 4.06% to 556.00, Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which was up 3.91% to settle at 55.740 and Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which gained 2.93% to close at 110.800.

The worst performers were Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) which was down 4.40% to 64.280 in late trade, Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which lost 2.27% to settle at 150.40 and Metro AG (DE:MEOG) which was down 1.98% to 9.580 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which rose 8.89% to 19.100, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was up 3.65% to settle at 16.065 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which gained 3.15% to close at 152.350.

The worst performers were Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which was down 1.98% to 61.750 in late trade, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which lost 1.58% to settle at 44.740 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 1.57% to 84.600 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 425 to 283 and 84 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 6.65% to 17.18.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.65% or 8.60 to $1317.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.52% or 0.32 to hit $61.28 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.28 to trade at $65.17 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.38% to 1.2320, while EUR/GBP fell 0.26% to 0.8835.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 90.04.
