Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 3.42%, while the SBF 120 index lost 3.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Alcatel Lucent SA (PARIS:ALUA), which fell 1.81% or 0.058 points to trade at 3.149 at the close. Alstom SA (PARIS:ALSO) fell 1.88% or 0.53 points to end at 27.66 and Safran SA (PARIS:SAF) was down 2.15% or 1.50 points to 68.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Peugeot SA (PARIS:PEUP), which lost 8.76% or 1.33 points to trade at 13.86 in late trade. Renault SA (PARIS:RENA) declined 7.12% or 5.10 points to end at 66.55 and ArcelorMittal SA (AMS:ISPA) shed 5.92% or 0.34 points to 5.46.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were GTT (PARIS:GTT) which rose 0.88% to 46.26, Ubisoft Entertainment (PARIS:UBIP) which was up 0.81% to settle at 17.975 and Gemalto (AMS:GTO) which gained 0.78% to close at 59.80.
The worst performers were Aperam (AMS:APAM) which was down 9.43% to 25.02 in late trade, Peugeot SA (PARIS:PEUP) which lost 8.76% to settle at 13.86 and Faurecia (PARIS:EPED) which was down 8.27% to 27.57 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 607 to 119 and 47 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 18.44% to 30.46.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.72% or 8.20 to $1124.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.19% or 1.50 to hit $45.46 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.87% or 0.92 to trade at $48.01 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.59% to 1.1123, while EUR/GBP rose 0.30% to 0.7236.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 96.50.
