Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.97%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which rose 4.26% or 1.89 points to trade at 46.21 at the close. Jamieson Wellness Inc (TSX:JWEL) added 2.05% or 0.62 points to end at 30.89 and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited (TSX:CP) was up 1.71% or 1.82 points to 108.19 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC), which lost 6.44% or 0.41 points to trade at 5.96 in late trade. Orla Mining Ltd (TSX:OLA) declined 4.88% or 0.23 points to end at 4.48 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 4.69% or 0.60 points to 12.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 649 to 317 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.40% to 12.31.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.29% or 5.95 to $2,056.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.63% or 2.05 to hit $75.77 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.48% or 2.05 to trade at $80.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 103.39.
