Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.96% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT), which rose 6.52% or 4.17 points to trade at 68.14 at the close. Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI) added 6.14% or 0.36 points to end at 6.22 and B2Gold Corp (TO:BTO) was up 3.76% or 0.130 points to 3.590 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB), which lost 12.00% or 1.370 points to trade at 10.050 in late trade. Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW) declined 7.57% or 0.140 points to end at 1.710 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TO:CPG) shed 7.31% or 0.49 points to 6.21.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 780 to 371 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.57% to 17.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.00% or 12.20 to $1233.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 4.15% or 2.87 to hit $66.30 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 4.32% or 3.45 to trade at $76.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.16% to 0.7645, while CAD/EUR rose 0.09% to 0.6664.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 95.68.
