Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 9.13% or 1.07 points to trade at 12.79 at the close. Endeavour Mining Corp (TSX:EDV) added 5.20% or 1.32 points to end at 26.71 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG) was up 4.07% or 0.55 points to 14.07 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON), which lost 8.77% or 0.96 points to trade at 9.99 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) declined 8.64% or 0.655 points to end at 6.925 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 7.62% or 2.455 points to 29.765.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 673 to 393 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.32% or 4.95 to $1570.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.19% or 1.22 to hit $54.37 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.98% or 1.23 to trade at $60.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.14% to 0.7608, while CAD/EUR rose 0.12% to 0.6898.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 97.670.
