Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were West Fraser Timber Co Ltd (TSX:WFG), which rose 6.85% or 5.95 points to trade at 92.78 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 6.60% or 0.53 points to end at 8.48 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 3.22% or 0.89 points to 28.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 8.19% or 1.85 points to trade at 20.75 in late trade. MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) declined 5.16% or 0.46 points to end at 8.45 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) shed 5.05% or 0.76 points to 14.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 631 to 383 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.60% or 10.75 to $1804.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.80% or 1.32 to hit $72.05 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.69% or 1.26 to trade at $73.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.09% to 0.8015, while CAD/EUR rose 0.08% to 0.6790.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 92.638.
