Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TSX:ZZZ), which rose 16.20% or 4.61 points to trade at 33.06 at the close. NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI) added 8.23% or 2.23 points to end at 29.32 and SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM) was up 4.62% or 0.95 points to 21.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG), which lost 8.00% or 0.38 points to trade at 4.42 in late trade. Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) declined 7.71% or 0.60 points to end at 7.18 and Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) shed 6.93% or 0.73 points to 9.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 740 to 295 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.01% or 0.25 to $1814.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.78% or 2.67 to hit $67.89 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.16% or 2.29 to trade at $70.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.07% to 0.7969, while CAD/EUR rose 0.13% to 0.6730.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 92.267.
