Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Consumer Discretionary and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which rose 6.25% or 0.10 points to trade at 1.70 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 5.57% or 1.220 points to end at 23.120 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TO:SSL) was up 5.41% or 0.330 points to 6.430 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR), which lost 9.26% or 0.90 points to trade at 8.82 in late trade. Cameco Corp (TO:CCO) declined 4.47% or 0.56 points to end at 11.97 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE) shed 4.46% or 0.150 points to 3.210.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 579 to 570 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.29% to 10.49.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.65% or 8.30 to $1278.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $58.33 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.14 to trade at $65.04 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.22% to 0.7864, while CAD/EUR rose 0.29% to 0.6628.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 92.88.
