Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Materials, Energy and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which rose 7.90% or 0.66 points to trade at 9.01 at the close. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) added 5.61% or 2.91 points to end at 54.75 and Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) was up 5.20% or 2.51 points to 50.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which lost 5.56% or 0.405 points to trade at 6.875 in late trade. Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT) declined 4.56% or 0.880 points to end at 18.410 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) shed 4.37% or 0.97 points to 21.22.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 553 to 507 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.88% to 11.46.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.69% or 10.45 to $1494.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.61% or 0.91 to hit $55.75 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $61.24 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7659, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6901.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 97.507.
