Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA), which rose 12.43% or 1.50 points to trade at 13.57 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) added 9.33% or 0.28 points to end at 3.28 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 7.79% or 1.13 points to 15.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX:MFI), which lost 9.36% or 2.38 points to trade at 23.05 in late trade. SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) declined 5.55% or 0.62 points to end at 10.56 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) shed 4.71% or 1.26 points to 25.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 690 to 230 and 83 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 16.97% to 16.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.33% or 32.30 to $2,464.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.20% or 0.90 to hit $76.13 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.97% or 0.76 to trade at $79.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 103.03.
